In a landmark collaboration, a consortium composed of Fortescue and Actis has secured exclusive rights to develop a major green hydrogen and green ammonia project in Oman. This partnership, announced in April 2024, positions Oman at the forefront of the global energy transition, showcasing the country’s commitment to sustainable development.
Shared Vision
Actis and Fortescue are completely in sync with our ambitions to decarbonise and create a new green energy industry globally. We share a common vision for the pivotal role that green hydrogen and green ammonia will play in forging a sustainable future, and the value that can be delivered to the people of Oman.

Powerful Partnership
Our collaboration with Actis, a leading global investor in sustainable infrastructure, forms a powerhouse consortium dedicated to developing high-impact projects. Together, we won the rights to develop a premier site in Oman, a victory that underscores the project’s significance in the region. The partnership with Hydrom ensures that our efforts will maximise value both within Oman and across the broader region, delivering substantial economic and environmental benefits.
Huge Potential
This project is set to be a game-changer in the renewable energy sector, with the capacity to produce up to 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. The project will harness approximately 4.5 GW of wind and solar energy to power electrolysers, enabling large-scale production of green hydrogen. This massive output is critical for meeting the growing global demand for clean energy and reducing carbon emissions.
Strategic Location
Oman’s strategic location, with its extensive coastline on the Arabian Sea and robust port infrastructure, makes it an ideal hub for exporting green hydrogen. The proximity to key demand centres in Asia and Europe further enhances Oman’s role as a crucial player in the global green energy supply chain. Additionally, Oman’s abundant solar and wind resources, combined with a stable and supportive regulatory environment, make it an attractive destination for investors seeking sustainable opportunities. The agreement with Actis marks a significant step forward, with the project currently in the feasibility stage. The undeniable appeal of this initiative has already attracted interest from top-tier lenders eager to finance the project. The green hydrogen produced will be sold to local industrial off-takers and processed into derivatives such as green ammonia for export, ensuring that Oman’s energy resources are utilised to their full potential.
