At Fortescue, we’re harnessing geothermal energy to power green industries worldwide. Our aim is to innovate and lead in sustainable energy.
What is Geothermal Energy?
Geothermal energy is a source of renewable energy where electricity is generated by harnessing the natural heat from the earth.
Used globally, its essential for electricity production, heating, agriculture and industrial applications.
How is geothermal energy used to make green hydrogen and ammonia?
To produce electricity from geothermal energy, deep wells are drilled to access the steam and hot water below the Earth’s surface. This steam is used to drive a turbine, connected to a generator.
Production wells tap the steam, while injection wells maintain reservoir pressure. The electricity generated is boosted in voltage at transformers and substations, then transmitted to power green hydrogen and green ammonia production.
Is Geothermal Energy Safe?
Fortescue’s geothermal energy infrastructure is designed to international safety standards, occupying small amounts of space, and doesn't require storage, transportation or combustion of fuels.
By following the principle of inherently safe design; we ensure that hazards are eliminated wherever possible, reduced through substitution or controlled through engineering solutions.
