Fortescue aims to develop solar power resources to support the establishment of renewable energy and green product industries around the world.
What is Solar Power?
Solar power is generated by capturing the natural heat and light from the sun. By converting sunlight into electricity, we’re powering our world in the most sustainable way.
What are the uses of solar power?
Solar power heats, ventilates, lights and even drives transportation. With over 700GW of solar power installed around the world, it's a proven solution for homes and large-scale grids, powering economies and creating jobs as we transition from fossil fuels.
Solar power isn’t just about cutting emissions; it’s about creating jobs and driving economies that shape a sustainable future.
How is solar power used to make green hydrogen and ammonia?
Solar power produces direct current (DC) electricity, which is converted to alternating current by an inverter. This high-voltage AC is sent to transformers and substations, powering the entire green hydrogen and green ammonia production process.
Using Solar Photovoltaic Cells
Using solar photovoltaic (PV) cells, energy is converted directly into electricity using a semiconductor cell like those commonly seen on the roof of a home, or as part of a large scale solar farm.
Using Solar Thermal
With solar thermal, solar radiation is converted into thermal energy, or heat. This heat is easily stored so it can be dispatched to create steam generating electricity when it is needed.
Is Solar Power safe?
Our solar infrastructure is designed with built-in safety, minimising risks with advanced engineering and international standards.
Modern solar PV cells are efficient, durable and low maintenance, making them reliable for any use.
